About General and Occupational Safety at Georgia Tech

 

The Office of General and Occupational Safety is committed to providing the Georgia Tech campus with a culture of safety through program development, providing specialized training to faculty, staff, and students, and performing safety inspections. Our mission is to ensure a safe environment for all who occupy the campus while complying with regulations and standards.

Contact us to schedule a job site analysis, enroll in construction and general industry safety awareness course, defensive driving and van safety, and if you see anything unsafe that can be a danger to yourself or the campus.

Injury Reporting

If medical treatment is necessary, the departmental supervisor must report the injury/illness to the State Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) by calling 877-656-7475 within 24 hours of the injury. The injury/illness must also be documented using the Georgia Tech Injury/Illness Reporting Form through the EHS website using the appropriate login credentials.

Note: Claims may only be reported by a supervisor/Human Resources representative. Employees cannot call in their own claims.

Good Catch Program

Good CatchStudents, faculty, and staff are encouraged to report conditions that they believe could have resulted in more serious consequences so proper actions can be implemented to prevent future injuries or property damage. Keep others safe by reporting a “Good Catch!”

AEDs

The Office of General Safety has developed a program to ensure the availability, maintenance, and proper use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which are located throughout the Georgia Tech campus.

 

Occupational Injuries

The Office of General and Occupational Safety has developed forms and guidelines to follow when reporting and handling an injury or illness case. 

 

Safety Training

The Office of General and Occupational Safety offers a variety of training to promote and ensure a culture of safety for faculty, staff, and students at Georgia Tech. We offer training classes routinely for defensive driving.

 

Maker Spaces and Student Machine Shops

The Maker Space and Student Machine Shop safety program has been designed to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard 29 CFR 1910.211-.219, Machinery and Machine Guarding.

The Office of General and Occupational Safety is committed to the prevention of work-related injuries and diseases as well as the protection and promotion of the health of students, faculty, and staff.

 

Vehicle Safety

The “How’s My Driving Program” at Georgia Tech assists in identifying and correcting unsafe driving behaviors, observe driver performance, measure and report data, and help identify faulty equipment in Georgia Tech vehicles in order to reduce the chance of accidents or injuries to employees and the general public.
