Laboratory Drain Maintenance Checklist
- A methane odor may be the result of the sink and floor drain traps drying out, which allows sewer gases—including methane—to escape into the room.
- Remedy: please flush the drains WEEKLY by pouring 1-Liter of water down all sinks and floor drains (especially rarely used ones) to keep drain traps filled.
- Call your Building Manager or GT Facilities if odors persist despite regular maintenance.
