A methane odor may be the result of the sink and floor drain traps drying out, which allows sewer gases—including methane—to escape into the room.
Remedy: please flush the drains WEEKLY by pouring 1-Liter of water down all sinks and floor drains (especially rarely used ones) to keep drain traps filled.
Call your Building Manager or GT Facilities if odors persist despite regular maintenance.
Geared toward students, this in-person class covers basic lab survival skills such as using a shower and eyewash as well as what to do in the event of a chemical spill, gas cylinder safety and how to handle chemical waste. All persons working in labs must have safety training: this basic class is a good foundation that can be supplemented by hazard awareness training specific to each lab.
