- Visually inspect the AED to ensure that the status light is GREEN.
- Open wall cabinet door to ensure that the alarm is audible and the light is flashing.
- Turn off alarm cabinet with key.
- Remove the AED and check the “Ready Kit” for supplies. Required supplies include:
- CPR Face Shield (mouth-to-mouth barrier)
- Razor
- Scissors
- Medical Exam Gloves
- Ensure that AED pads are present and not expired. Also, make sure that the pad package has not been opened or tampered with.
- Remove the battery from the bottom of the unit and note the manufacturing date. Note if the AED battery is expired. The expiration date is four years after the manufacturing date. When the battery is removed, the status light should turn RED.
- Reinstalled the battery. The status light should still be RED.
- Open the lid on the AED and ensure that no warning lights display on the face of the unit.
- Once the AED beeps, close the lid. The status light should flicker from RED to GREEN after a few seconds.
- Return the AED to the wall cabinet. Make sure the status light returns to GREEN.
- Turn on the alarm with cabinet key.
