On August 30, 2016, forty-eight fire evacuation drills were conducted in one night. These are required to be completed in dormitories, fraternity houses, and sorority houses within the first 10 days of each semester.
Historically, fire evacuation drills were completed over three nights. This year Housing and the Fire Safety Office decided to put all-hands on deck and accomplish all drills in one night. Drills started at 6:00PM and were completed by 8:58PM. We had three groupings of housing buildings simultaneously participate in the fire drills. During this ambitious effort a support team was monitoring progress and problem solving to help keep the drill schedule on-time.
It was an amazing night of practice and education. With all the positive feedback from students and staff, we plan to make this the norm. Thanks to all involved in this program!
