Road sign - change ahead

In an effort to reduce PI burden, eliminate redundancy and streamline processes we are re-envisioning the lab inspection program in 2016.

In the past, the Biosafety team and the Lab/Chemical Safety team have conducted separate lab inspections. There was quite a bit of overlap in these inspections, and was seen as overly burdensome by lab personnel.

In an attempt to reduce number of EHS visits, provide one inspection report, increase EHS efficiency, and reduce PI burden, we have merged our inspections into one form. The final combined form has only 5 more questions than the original Lab/Chemical safety form.

During the month of February, the Lab/Chemical Safety and Biosafety teams will pilot this new inspection form in the IBB Building.  Based on the feedback we obtain from the pilot study, we hope to roll the process out to the entire campus.

Be on the lookout for more information as this process is tested and implemented. We will be seeking and encouraging stakeholder input throughout the process to ensure the end product is a success for all of Georgia Tech.
