Bio/Chem Joint Inspections

As you know, in the past, the Biosafety team and the Lab & Chemical Safety team have conducted separate lab inspections. We have merged our inspections into 1 form for the following reasons:

• Reduce the number of EHS visits
• Reduce the number of inspection reports (no longer will you have 1 Biosafety report and 1 Lab & Chemical Safety report)
• Increase EHS efficiency
• Reduce PI and lab personnel burden

The final combined form has only 5 more questions than the original Lab & Chemical Safety form.

EHS plans inspections based on the building the lab resides.  When EHS visits your building, you will be notified at least 2 weeks prior to prepare for the inspection.  In the event that you're notified, please be on the lookout for an email from EHS looking to schedule your lab’s inspection.  It is essential that we have a member from your lab present during the inspection to show us around, to explain the research, and to be able to ask us questions.
