Your lab partner just spilled a chemical on their arm. After directing them to the sink to wash for 15 minutes, you should:
A. Email your favorite EHS staff member
B. Call the Lab and Chemical Safety Officer’s office number
C. Call Georgia Tech Police and the EHS Emergency Phone
D. Call your mom
While we just celebrated Mother’s Day, more than likely your mom is not the person to call during an EHS-related emergency. Also, even if you have a go-to person in the EHS office, they may not be checking their email every minute to respond to your incident. Lastly, there are no guarantees that the Lab and Chemical Safety Officer will be at their desk to answer your call.
The correct answer is C! Always call the EHS Emergency Phone and Georgia Tech Police first in the event of an EHS-related emergency or incident. EHS maintains a duty roster that ensures that an EHS manager is on call 24/7 with the EHS Emergency Phone. The person carrying the phone will help walk you through next steps for receiving proper medical attention, handling the event or come to your physical location to administer assistance.
To ensure you know the right number to call, plug these two numbers into your phone:
