At the beginning of this month, a man working for a construction contractor at Georgia Tech became unresponsive as he waited to move his truck into place to unload. His co-worker, a former fire fighter, recognized the situation and immediately called for his manager to call 911. Right after calling 911, the manager recognized our Fire Marshal, Larry Labbe, walking by and requested his help. Larry examined the man, instructed someone to retrieve an AED, and began administering CPR. The men used the AED twice and took turns administering CPR until the ambulance arrived. The man is alive today thanks to the calm, trained presence of Larry and the man’s coworkers. The manager later recollected, “having the right personnel at the right moment properly trained by companies that care about their employees is a great asset to any jobsite.”
