Biological Safety
The Office of Biological Safety is responsible for the protection of people and the environment from potentially harmful microorganisms and other biological agents.
Environmental Programs
The Office of Environmental Programs oversees compliance with several environmental rules and regulations set forth by both the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Fire Safety
The Office of Fire Safety is responsible for implementing safety rules and policies intended to prevent fires, and fire- related injuries and deaths.
General Safety
The Office of General and Occupational Safety is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all who occupy the campus while complying with regulations and standards.
Hazardous Waste
The Office of Hazardous Materials is responsible for the management of the hazardous waste generated on campus and ensuring its safe collection, segregation, and disposal.
Lab and Chemical Safety
The Office of Lab and Chemical Safety aims to minimize the risk of injury and illness associated with research involving chemical agents and to facilitate completion of work in a safe and compliant manner.
Radiation Safety
The Office of Radiological Safety (ORS) manages all aspects of the use of radioactive material (RAM), ionizing radiation generating devices, and Class 3B and 4 lasers at Georgia Tech.
Shipping
Shipping hazardous materials is regulated by various entities including the Department of Transportation (DOT), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To ensure that those regulations are adhered to, EHS ships these items for you.

Minors in the Lab Policies
In accordance with the Board of Regents Human Resources Administrative Practice Manual, if a minor is employed, volunteering, or participating in a program that takes place in a lab or any environment that could be considered hazardous (laboratory, machine shop, etc.), certain requirements must be met.
- The hiring/volunteer manager or program coordinator has to coordinate with EHS.
- The direct supervisor will have constant line of sight supervision of the minor at all times while in the lab.
- A minor cannot be employed in any setting involving exposure to radioactive substances or explosive materials.
- No minors under the age of 16 may be employed to work in a lab or hazardous environment.
- Minors must follow the Personal Protective Equipment and Appropriate Attire Policy.
For minors working or volunteering, the hiring or volunteer manager must contact EHS and complete Application for Authorization of Minor to Work or Volunteer in a Laboratory or Other Hazardous Area.
For minors participating in a youth program, the program coordinator must contact EHS and complete Application for Authorization of Minor to Participate in Youth Programs.
In either case, the parent/legal guardian of the minor must complete the Parental Request to Participate Release and Waiver Agreement and the Consent for Minor's Presence in Lab and return them to the hiring/volunteer manager or program coordinator.
The hiring/volunteer manager or program coordinator will then upload forms on this webpage below. Please be sure to log in with your GT credentials.

Authorization from EHS must occur prior to start of work in the lab or hazardous environment. EHS will notify the department and send them the approved forms.
NOTE: All Georgia Tech individuals or units organizing youth programs, on or off campus, must register annually online, per the Youth Programs Policy. Please find more information at youthprograms.gatech.edu.

The EH&S department is located in three different buildings across campus.

Park in the lot between Marietta Street and the building. Walk in the front entrance. The training room will be on your right, and all offices are upstairs.

The closest visitor parking lots are the Visitor Parking Lots 2 and 3. From the south entrance, proceed up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Our offices are 2/3 down the long hallway.
